Green River Star Shares Our Sweetwater County Trauma Simulation Training

Simulation in Motion Montana (SIM-MT) was featured in the Green River Star after bringing our mobile simulation program to Sweetwater County. Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County (MHSC) hosted the two day training.

The scenarios felt real from start to finish. In one, a SIM-MT educator played the father of a young patient, giving information to the care team just like a worried parent would at the bedside. The team worked with a manikin that blinks, talks, moves its head, has an anatomically correct airway and has pupils that dilate when a light shines in them.

"Our teams had the opportunity to strengthen their skills by practicing in simulated trauma settings," said Stevie Kennedy, MHSC Emergency Management and Environmental Safety Coordinator. "It's one of the many ways area emergency responders and healthcare providers become even better prepared to care for the community."

More than 50 nurses, doctors, CNAs, respiratory therapists, technicians, EMS crews and support staff trained together in an MHSC Emergency Department trauma room and a Castle Rock Ambulance Service ambulance. Along with practicing patient care, the group built a regional response plan for an infectious disease crisis.

Ronda Zancanella of Sweetwater County Public Health and the Western Region Healthcare Coalition explained that the State of Wyoming partnered with SIM-MT to strengthen the state's ability to manage highly infectious diseases through hands on training and regional collaboration.

Thank you to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, Castle Rock Ambulance Service and the Western Region Healthcare Coalition, and to the Green River Star for sharing the story.
