Simulation in Motion Montana (SIM-MT) was featured in the Northern Plains Independent for a full day of burn simulation training at Roosevelt Medical Center in Culbertson.

Local EMS and hospital staff worked through a mix of outdoor and indoor scenarios during two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with a working lunch in between. Each session included a pediatric burn patient and an adult burn patient, giving the team a chance to practice caring for both in realistic conditions.

"Our crew members train hard to be equipped to respond to many types of emergencies in our communities," said Samantha Purvis, EMS director at Roosevelt Medical Center. "We all live and work where we serve and we are grateful to be trusted by our fellow residents in their time of need."

Purvis also shared how the lifelike manikins added to the experience. "We can start simulated IVs and take real vital signs with our own equipment," she said.

Thank you to Liz Mogen, Marsha Schmidt, Dave Norton, Bev Raaum, Bree Strickland, Brenda Kringen and Samantha Purvis for training with us, and to SIM-MT educators Bobbi Jo Anderson and Kate Bertolino for leading the day. Roosevelt Medical Center hosts training two or three times a year, and we look forward to the next one.
